Our kitty (Boba) watching a nature video. Birds were flying in and out of view on the screen and she kept looking out the window to see if they were there. : ) She also has a favorite mouse video too. LOL
Hello ladies! I think it was before our pumpkin party that I had last posted. Here are some of the pumpkins from that gathering:
Everyone always gets so creative! If there is such a thing as a perfect evening - the weather was great, the funny conversations around the fire, sipping on potato soup to warm us up and having a few S'mores for dessert. Things that memories are made of. : )
I know I'm a little late but I wanted to pause and thank all the veterans out there for their service (past and present). My husband and I had dads who served in WWII. Thank you! You are NOT forgotten.
We are now in the cold air that a good part of the country is in (normal here in MN). It's been very cloudy and we had some MUCH needed rain earlier and mid-week. Today there were tiny little flurries in the air. I'm ready. Especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. The flurries were also nice because I put up our Christmas tree today. We have to put the lights on yet but we aren't going to decorate it until Thanksgiving Day as I'm going to try to start a new tradition for the four of us. I thought that after we eat we would decorate the tree together. Everyone seems to be all for it, so I'm hoping it will be fun for us as we share some memories that come with each ornament.
Other than the tree, all of our fall decorations are still up because I like them up for Thanksgiving Day. It will pretty much be the traditional holiday foods - I tend not to go for trying anything new. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? After years of holiday food preparation, I think we women just know what doesn't go over very well and what works. How about you? Do you stick with the same menu or do you try something new? I'd love to know. : )
We also tend to take our Christmas photo on Thanksgiving. And it's always cold! There we are, sitting without coats on the front porch, (freezing) and acting like we're just fine. LOL But that's become a tradition too so we're sticking to it!!! : )
I co-hosted a craft get-together at our church last Saturday and only nine women showed up but we enjoyed crafting what each of us brought, talking and getting to know each other a bit better all the while eating donut holes and sipping apple cider. I don't know if we'll do it again based on the numbers but we tried it and it was enjoyable. : )
Because I love to craft, I'm going to try and open an Etsy shop after the new year. I had a shop a long time ago, but it was kind of hodge-podge so it really didn't do very well. I feel like I have a new idea for it so I want to at least try it again and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. : )
There isn't a whole lot to post about. I haven't been cooking or baking anything new. I continue to read, craft, keep house.......but nothing that would be helpful to you as a reader. I guess I just wanted to check in, hoping that all is well with you. I was very disappointed in the election. Now we have the same as we did and can continue to expect some not-so-good things that will have ramifications for the future of our country. The one thing it does do is that it helps us to keep our focus on God not men. Men always disappoint, God does not.
With that, I will stop. Keep praying. God bless your Sabbath tomorrow and your week ahead!
Mary
Another beautiful sunset. : )
Hello! So glad to visit with you here today. The pumpkins are amazing! Such detail! I am glad to hear you had a lovely evening. I am so glad we here in Pennsylvania are finally going to get some cold weather! It has been so warm lately we have had the air conditioning on! I cannot put the tree up when I'm sweating! The election? I am still in shock. How? How can that happen? I am disappointed, but you have a very good thought! God does not disappoint! Have a cozy afternoon!
ReplyDeleteHi Billie Jo! Yes, everyone who does the pumpkins amaze me too because nobody uses a pattern - it's all free-hand. : ) Glad you are getting the seasonable weather now - come November I'm ready for the colder temps. You're right - I can't imagine putting up a tree when the air conditioning is on! Just doesn't seem right. LOL : ) And.....shock is definitely the word for the elections. We have a new generation who vote now and the politicians know what social agenda to push to gain their votes! Sad. So nice to hear from you, Billie Jo. Have a good week ahead!
DeleteHi Mary~ Wow, those pumpkins! It sounds like you had a wonderful time with your family. Making memories is what it's all about...I love it! It is so extremely cold here in Idaho - snow would be wonderful, because it would have to warm up a bit. But, a snowy day is a perfect day to put up your tree! I won't put mine up until the first week in December. I'm not quite ready to give up my fall decor. I'm excited to see what you put in your Etsy shop! You must be very crafty, can't wait to see it! Hot cider and donut holes sound delicious...yum. It's always fun to meet with church family and get to know each other better. I just keep remembering who is really in charge. I keep praying for world leaders, and pray that things will change and that our country can unite and work together for good. Your sunset photo is gorgeous!! Have a wonderful Sunday, Mary! Hugs, Barb
ReplyDeleteHi Barb - thank you so much for your comment. I think that's what I like about November and December - making the memories. It seems like Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two times that I remember certain things the most out of all the months we have. I hear you about the fall decor - I put mine up earlier this year to extend the season. So pretty. : ) And, yes, I will definitely continue to pray for this world and our country too!!! And I know you like sunsets as much as I do - I thought of you when I posted the photo. : ) A hug back to you and have a wonderful week ahead, Barb.
DeleteI loved seeing your cat and those pumpkins are amazing! I'll bet yours was the heart and sunflower. I thought they were all such cute and clever ideas! And freehand - you guys are talented. They are so well-lit I'm thinking you used real candles. We had at least 100 trick or treaters within 1.5 hrs. We haven't carved pumpkins in a decade though! A family party to do so sounds like fun. Great idea about the tradition of decorating the tree afterwards, and doing the photo. When I was growing up we always looked forward to watching Santa & The 3 Bears, which always aired on Thanksgiving night. We are having 5 or 6 widows over on Thanksgiving & will watch the Snoopy/Charlie Brown Pilgrim story.
ReplyDeleteI think 9 women showing up for crafting is good! Smaller is always better, imo. You really get to know people more deeply then. Beautiful sunset! Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi Janine! Yes, the pumpkin carvers are definitely serious about their pumpkin designs! : ) It really is a fun night for all of us. I can't believe you had that many trick or treaters!!!! We didn't have one knock on our door - a lot of people take their kids to parking lots where they do "trunk or treat" - people park their cars and open the car trunks or the back of their vehicle and some dress up and hand out treats that way. My sister in Kansas participates that way in their church parking lot. I guess it's quite fun for everyone. SO wonderful that you invited widows for Thanksgiving - very kind. Holidays are so different without loved ones. Sounds like you had a very nice Thanksgiving and now on to Christmas!!!!! God bless you and your family and the upcoming weekend. : )

Boba is precious and wow on the pumpkins. Ya'll did an amazing job. I think that is so heart warming for the family to gather and decorate the tree together on Thanksgiving. That is a fabulous tradition. I still like all of the same traditional foods for Thanksgiving and Christmas but love to try an new and extra dish each holiday as well. Have a blessed Thanksgiving, Mary
ReplyDeleteHi Melisa! How kind of you to comment. : ) Thank you so much. I'm pretty traditional as well when it comes to holidays - decorating, cooking, etc., but you're right - it's fun to try something new as well! Happy Thanksgiving to you, Melisa.
DeleteHello my friend, I love the pumpkins and I’m so glad the carving party went perfectly! Those times are precious. I think the Etsy idea is a good one, as you’re so good with crafts, cooking, sewing.. pretty much an all-around girl 😊
ReplyDeleteI finally took our Autumnal decor down as it had been up since the beginning of September this year. I needed to have a bit of clear space for a bit before the Christmas decor takes centre stage.
Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving my friend.
God Bless,
Christine
Hi Christine! We're beginning this week to take Autumn down (I still want a few indoor things for Thanksgiving) and then up goes the Christmas decor for this first Sunday in Advent. : ) Blessings to you!!!!

Wow, those pumpkins look great! I have never carved a pumpkin before... maybe I should try one day, but I doubt mine would turn out anywhere as nice! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joy! Yes, it always amazes me the wonderful job everyone does with the carving. So fun - hope you DO give it a try some day! LOL : ) Thank you for commenting!!!
